This new release has been created to assist Oracle SQL developers
to produce highly tuned SQL. MGA tunes many Oracle sites. The performance
issues that we observe are often caused by inefficient code. This
release of EagleEye assists the developer to avoid this issue by
offering Coding Standards, extended tracing, real life usage of
hints and much more.
The new functionality includes:
- (i) The ability to "Trace your Session"
from the SQL Worksheet. This allows you to run various SQL statements
with a variety of bind variables and then obtain a detailed set
of diagnostics per SQL statement including runtime per bind, accesses
per index / table, wait events and more. The trace appears in
EagleEye without having to go out to the operating system to identify
and retrieve the trace file.
- (ii) "SQL Coding Standards" are being
added to the Worksheet. The coding standards include how to construct
your SQL for highest efficiency (for example, IN versus EXISTS)
as well as a list of the 15 biggest causes of untuned SQL and
much more.
- (iii) A comprehensive set of ALL "Oracle Hints"
in provided the SQL Worksheet along with syntax, descriptions
and real world usage.
- (iv) "Keywords are colored" in the
SQL Worksheet for ease of readability. You can also shrink subqueries
and inline views to make it easier to read the SQL. This is useful
for speeding the tuning of long and complex SQL statements
- (v) SQL statements can have "Enhanced Formatting"
applied for easy readability
- (vi) "Bind Variables can be translated"
automatically to avoid you having to search in your tables to
find suitable bind values to place into the query.
- (vii) "SQL History" of the last 100
SQL statements is maintained. You can double click on the SQL
and place it back into the WorkSheet. The history extends beyond
your current session, allowing you to select SQL entered previously.
4.3 Release Compatability
- Oracle10G (ALL) Compatible
- Provides the V$SQLPLAN execution plan in addition to the PLAN_TABLE
execution plan (required for Oracle9i and 10G to observe correct
execution plan)
4.3 DBA Functional Improvements
- Interfaces into Statspack SQL, to provide the SQL runtime information
along with the execution plan at the time the statement was run
- Advanced diagnostics on a per session basis including > Wait
Events > Latch Information > Sort Usage > Undo Usage
- Advanced monitoring of segment (table/index) waits
- PeopleSoft diagnostic improvements
- Diagnoses all SQL performing Full Scans
- Advanced Oracle Alert Log monitoring
